Welcome
to our website for Camp Carter 2000. The camp we used is a YMCA facility located on the
northwest side of Fort Worth, TX. On Sunday, July 23, the lives of 112 campers
(including 16 from other countries) and 39 staff members converged. They joined
to create the Zone, a term we use to describe the Millennial atmosphere at all
United Youth Camps. Even the weather cooperated by cooling down after being
quite warm the week before camp.
We enjoyed a week that included visits from Mr. Les McCullough,
president of the United Church of God, Mr. Larry Greider, overall coordinator
for United Youth Camps, and two visitors from the ACA (American Camping
Association). Camp Carter is one of four camps to receive visits from the ACA
this summer to see if our program will be accredited by them for safety. Camp
Carter had a perfect score on our visit. The ACA visitors were very
complimentary of our national program and the level of commitment and
organization that is done by an all-volunteer work force. The YMCA staff was
also very impressed with our campers and our staff. Jennifer Scheider, Senior
Counselor for YMCA, said this, "We've been amazed by the level of
participation by your group. It's so cool to see the amount of skill training
and involvement in the team activities."
Take your time and browse this site. We have a page that gives
an overview of the camp, and a page each for campers, staff, activities and
pictures of friends.
Over 400 digital photos were taken at camp. Many were made
available on a CD after camp for a nominal fee ($5) to cover the cost of the CD, a
mailer and the postage. Contact the camp
director if you are interested in a copy. You can click the link above or
the mail icon here.
Special thanks to Keith Stephenson for his work taking the
digital photos and organizing them on the CD.
