Christian Living Classes

Christian Living classes were held each morning right after breakfast, except for the group that was going horseback riding for the morning. They had their class after lunch in the 1-2 PM rest time. The older boys and girls dorms met together each day, as did the younger boys and girls dorms. Ministers taught the class as teams of two, so the actual presentation for each class was slightly different. But the basic topics were the same.

This year our focus was on values. The topics for each day were as follows:

Monday - Values in General
This discussion centered around what makes something a 'value' or 'of value', where do people get their values, and where should we look for values that are priceless and will last.

Tuesday - Peace and Peacemaking
Peace involves much more than just not fighting. God will be the one to bring real lasting peace to this planet. We've all seen people who seem to always get into fights, and others that seem to be a peace with everyone. What actions or attitudes can we identify that will lead to peace? What are the keys to being a peacemaker who can resolve conflicts?

Wednesday - Self Control & Self Discipline
Many of God's instructions focus on us being able to control ourselves. A person can have all kinds of talent, but if they can't or won't control or discipline themselves, their talents can go to waste. Some people seem to always be disciplined by others. It's much better to discipline or control yourself.

Thursday - Good Stewardship
We all have responsibility to take of certain things--things we're responsible for. Being able to rightly handle things--from money to physical possessions to the truth of God--is a characteristic God is looking for in His followers.

Friday - Sexual Identity & Sexual Morality
God designed us as male and female and said that was "very good". He further explained His intent that we marry one person for life. That is always held out as the ideal for humanity--that a man and woman would love each other and remain faithful to each other for life. That's what makes the most stable society. And He tells us to keep our selves pure sexually. These instructions are for our good--to give us the best life possible.
