Christian Living
Christian Living classes this year were split up into two
segments--a short 10 to 15-minute Compass Check each morning right after
breakfast and then a longer Christian Living segment after Open Activities in
the evening where further discussion of the morning's topic was held, after
which campers were able to ask questions of the ministry. Everyone heard the
Compass Checks as a group right after breakfast. In the evenings we divided into
two groups to make it easier for everyone to hear. The older three dorms were in
one group and the younger three dorms were in the other.
This year our focus was on various aspects of relationships. The topics for each day were
as follows:
Monday -
Relationship with God
Mr. Ken Giese (Head Counselor) discussed our
relationship with God as the starting point of all good relationships. He
stressed the point that God desires a relationship with His children and
in essence, has His hand out to all of us asking us to respond.
Tuesday -
Relationships with Parents and Siblings
Mr. Ken Treybig (Camp Director) spoke about our relationships with family,
pointing out that our relationships with parents and especially siblings
have the potential for being the longest ones in our lives. He stressed
the one key of "putting yourself in someone else's shoes" as a
key to building relationships.
Wednesday -
Relationship with the Church
Mr. Doug Horchak (Lakefront Supervisor) spoke on our
relationship with the Church. He pointed out that the human body has
"forced unity" in that the parts are all put together when we
are born. But if we want unity with a group of other people, we must make
a choice to get along with each other.
Thursday -
Relationships with Friends
Mr. Eric Evans (Music Activity Head) explored
relationships with friends, using his team’s gold medal from hockey to
point out that we need each other. He pointed out that we can do much
greater things when we work as a team because "Together Everyone
Accomplishes More" [TEAM].
Friday -
Relationship with Society
Mr. Gary Petty (Football & Christian Living Supervisor) talked about our
relationship with society, pointing out that as ambassadors for Christ we
are to strive to take the Zone with us everywhere to be an
"embassy" representing the Kingdom of God.
