Welcome
to the Camp Carter Web page for United Youth Camps. [Please
note, this is
NOT the Website
for the YMCA and their program, which runs all summer.] The United Youth Camps
program is are supported by the
United Church of God, an International Association and rent camps across
the U.S. for our summer and winter camp programs--usually about a week long. The camp we
use for our United Youth Camps summer camp in Texas is a YMCA facility located on
the northwest side of Fort Worth, TX, near Lake Worth, named Camp Amon
Carter. This is our UYC-Camp Carter entry page, which will give current year information
about the camp as well as links to past camp Web pages, and will be used
to post any special announcements we feel parents should be aware of during
camp. We'll also include some other items, like a link to check the current
weather, current year application forms for campers and staff, and the
current year camp description used in the annual camp magazine. We hope
the page will be a helpful communication tool before, during, and after
camp for campers, staff members, and parents.
New Camp Website:
A new Camp Website was established this past year for all our camp programs in
the United Church of God--preteen, teen camps, and Challenger II camps. The URL
is http://uyc.ucg.org and it has a separate
page for each camp director to post information about that camp. It has a
feature where you can sign up to receive updates about the camp program via
email. It offers a new "Virtual Sabbath Notes" option, and is the
location to go for the online registration process for our teen camps--as either
a camper or volunteer staff member. There is a large menu button to click to
apply for camp, but if you have trouble finding it, here's the direct link: http://www.ucg.org/youthcamps/utils/Register/.
Camp Photo Disk:
We are once again offering a disk of
photos from Camp Carter. To order one, send $5 to Mr. Andy Burnett, 815 N Lake
Caddo Ct, Slidell, LA 70461. It will take us a little while after camp to sort and rename
all the hundreds of photos taken each year, but we will create and burn the
disks as soon as we can.
Here's a short video at golf.
The oldest
boys dorm and oldest girls dorm are each given two hours of golf in three
areas--driving, chipping, and putting. Sydney did a great job sinking the put
for us! Click here to see the MPG video
from 2009.
Camp 2010 Update:
Camper and staff acceptances have been sent
for Camp Carter. We will again have 3 boys dorms and 3 girls dorms with about 80
campers and are looking forward to another great year of camp!
The links below are now active.
Please note that following our switch to the online registration program last
year, we will no longer be posting application packets online to be downloaded. The link for you to
apply for camp is on the new United Youth Camps
Website.
The URL is http://uyc.ucg.org.
The packing list, transportation form, and the YMCA release forms are available now. They
were also sent out via
email by the new online application system, but a copy is available here in
case you need another.
Maps are available below
to help you get to Camp Carter as well as for service in Ft. Worth. You'll need
the free Adobe Acrobat Reader program (see link below) to view and print them.

We're expecting lots of action, a good balance of "down time"
and plenty of opportunities to visit with other campers and staff from
around the country.
Activities are varied, ranging from indoor activities (Christian
Living, crafts, dance and strength training) to more active outdoor
activities (basketball, flag football, horseback riding, softball,
skeet/archery, speedaway and volleyball).
Everyone enjoys the ropes course (high and low elements) and a half-day
lakefront activity on nearby Lake Worth. Waterskiing, tubing, swimming,
kayaking or just lounging on the shore with a brother or sister dorm is a
popular activity. The oldest boys' dorm and oldest girls' dorm experience
a few extras such as a golf class on a nearby course and rappelling at the
65-foot tower. Also, campers may choose to seek proficiency awards in
basketball, pamper pole, strength/fitness, 1-mile swim, volleyball and
waterskiing.
Christian Living classes, daily Compass Checks, Bible Q&A sessions
and group Bible games and activities-facilitated by the ministerial
staff-help give a solid base of biblical instruction as well as discussion
of the yearly camp theme. Every year, campers tell us they find the
biblical/Christian Living instruction and discussion the most beneficial
aspect of camp for them. Additionally, campers and staff have the
opportunity to sing in the choir during Sabbath services.
All of this takes place in Fort Worth, Texas, on over 300 acres of
beautiful, rolling Texas hills. Large oaks and sycamore trees provide lots
of shade; however, don't worry about heat stroke! We schedule most of the
active outdoor activities in the morning and the indoor and water
activities in the afternoon.
Transportation
If you plan to fly to camp, transportation to and from DFW Airport and
Dallas Love Field will be provided free of charge. Please schedule your
flight's arrival between noon and 3 p.m. on July 4 and your departure
between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on July 11. This will allow us time to schedule
our airport runs so you arrive near the beginning of check-in, which
starts at 3 p.m.
If you are traveling by private vehicle, plan to arrive between 3 and 5
p.m. on July 4 and depart at or shortly after 10 a.m. on July 11. Please
note that we will not be able to accept campers before 3 p.m. on July 4,
since we need the time on both Saturday night and Sunday to finish our
staff training before campers arrive. We want to provide the best quality
staff team to care for our campers, so thank you in advance for your
cooperation in this regard.
Staff
The YMCA staff runs the ropes course, rappelling, archery, skeet/riflery,
swimming pool, horseback riding, as well as provides the meals. We will
need counselors and assistant counselors, plus staff for all other
activities, including certified lifeguards for the lakefront activity and
nursing staff for the Health Center.
Precamp staff training is an important factor in making sure we serve
the campers effectively at our United Youth Camps, so we're asking all
staff members to arrive in time for afternoon services in Fort Worth on
the Sabbath of July 3. The brethren have been wonderful in providing a
meal for us each year, after which we'll move into the facility and
undergo training sessions Saturday night and Sunday before campers arrive.
Campers arrive Sunday, July 4, and depart Sunday, July 11.
