Here’s in update on Payton from the Hahns…

We are pleased to report much progress with Payton’s hand since his accident last May.  The therapists, after spending several months of working with Payton’s hand, were surprised to find much of the nerve function has returned and Payton has a very good sense of feeling in his fingers.  Payton has been released from therapy with instructions to diligently continue his exercises at home and to use his hand as much as possible.

One issue of concern, is the continued problem of scar tissue adhering to the repaired tendons.  This causes a lot of stiffness in the fingers, and arthritis-like pain.  The surgeon will see Payton later this month to discuss when surgery to correct this would be recommended.  The surgeon has said that occasionally the adhesions will break away on their own and we are hoping God will heal the problem in this way and allow a complete resolution to this problem.  We would very much like to avoid additional surgery.  We are very grateful for the prayers and the many cards of encouragement.

Wanted to give you an update on Payton.  They removed his stitches this week (fifty some) and have increased his therapy sessions to twice a week.  No new exercises, but they do want us to massage his scars now that the stitches have been removed, again in an effort to keep scar tissue from adhering to the tendons.  Payton continues to receive encouraging cards and emails from all over and we are most appreciative of everyone’s prayers.

The Hahn family would deeply appreciate your prayers for one of their sons. He may lose the use of his right hand due to a serious accident last week. Here are the details:

Payton Hahn, 12, son of Bill and DaAnn Hahn, had an accident with a machete Wednesday evening. He stuck the machete into the side of a hill to pull himself up and his hand slipped off the handle and slid all the way down the blade with all of his weight on it. He severely cut four fingers on his right hand. He was anointed and a doctor in the Emergency Room sutured his fingers and referred them to an orthopedic surgeon the next day. They were at the hospital 11 hours on Friday with Payton in surgery almost six hours. All the tendons in the four fingers were severed along with the nerves in three of them. The specialists are not venturing a prognosis at this time, but told the family to prepare Payton to begin to learn to use his left hand even with the extensive rehab he will undergo for his right hand. The family is grateful that Payton is alive and that they were able to save his fingers which were nearly severed. They would appreciate prayers for God’s mercy for Payton and that He would heal him and restore his right hand completely.
