Richard Bowen died Thursday, September 13, around noon, on the Feast of
Trumpets--the day that pictures his resurrection along with all the other
saints who rest in their graves. God called Richard three years ago and
although his time in the Church was brief, he was an inspiration to all because
of his positive attitude as he battled stomach cancer. A memorial service
is being planned. Cards may be sent to Richard’s friend and caregiver:

Richard Bowen,
46, a member in the Tampa
congregation, has been diagnosed as having stomach cancer. After several weeks of
chemotherapy and radiation to shrink the tumor, Richard's doctors hoped
to perform surgery to remove it. Unfortunately, the surgery revealed that
the cancer had spread beyond the tumor into all of his stomach. Because of
this, the doctors did not surgically remove the tumor and have switched to
a slightly different method of treatment. The plan now is for Richard to
be given a drug to make the tumor photo-sensitive and then to use a
laser (fed through his esophagus) to burn it away. This will be followed by
additional chemotherapy. Richard requests our prayers for his healing and that
this procedure, scheduled for January 19, will take away enough of the
tumor so that he can swallow and eat normally once again (currently he cannot
swallow and has a feeding tube for nourishment). The doctors say that
being able to eat normally again is important because it would allow
Richard to gain additional strength.
Through all of
this Richard has exhibited an extremely positive attitude, has not had
severe pain and has been able to continue working.
