From Gary McConnaughey, Pastor of Cadillac, Grand Rapids, & Kalamazoo Michigan:

Charles (Chuck) Bailey has been bedridden for the last three or four months.  Hospice care has helped his wife, Sharon, in caring for Chuck’s needs.  He has steadily grown weaker and cannot get out of bed.  He has refused all medications for his heart and pain from his stroke three years ago.  The one positive event has been that the constant pain he has suffered has now ceased; the medical people say it is probably because the nerve has died that was causing all the pain.  Mrs. Bailey is asking for prayers that God’s will be done.   They appreciate all the cards, prayers, and calls they have received.

Charles Bailey continues to experience periods of intense pain and has undergone tests to try and isolate the cause(s).  He has good days and bad and wanted to thank all who have been such an encouragement to him and his wife Sharon.

He said it has been very humbling and encouraging to know the love expressed from God through His people from all around the world.  It has shown a great example of the way God wants His world to be.

Charles Bailey, an elder, turned 76 this spring and has been struggling with severe pain as a result of the stroke he suffered last Spring, along with a queasy stomach that has made eating difficult.  He has been on several very strong pain medications.  It has been a very hard trial for both Chuck and his wife, Sharon.  He has trouble sleeping and is confined to a motorized wheel chair.  Both Chuck and Sharon appreciate the prayers, cards, and letters of encouragement they have received and request prayers for God to heal the cause of the pain and upset stomach.

Charles Bailey has been recovering at home from the stroke he suffered that has affected his right arm and leg.  He is regaining the coordination and strength little by little.  The doctors said it would take 9 to 12 months for him to get back to where he was before the stroke.  He gets frustrated and discouraged at times with the slow pace of recovery.  Both Chuck and Sharon his wife appreciate all the prayers, cards, and letters they have received during Chuck's extended health problems.

Charles (Chuck) and Sharon Bailey want to thank all those who have sent cards and offered up prayers for him.  He was allowed to go home this past Friday afternoon.  He was so elated to be able to leave the hospital.  He still has a way to go to fully recover from his stroke.  He will have a nurse/physical therapist visit him 3 times a week.  They have received cards and letters from all over the world!  It has been a source of great encouragement to have brothers and sisters in Christ from all around the world praying him.  Again, thank you for your concern and prayers.  Please continue to ask God for a full recovery for Chuck.

From Gary McConnaughey, Pastor of Cadillac, Grand Rapids, & Kalamazoo Michigan:

Mr. Charles (Chuck) Bailey and his wife Sharon want to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, and emails of encouragement.  He is out of intensive care and is now in rehabilitation.  The stroke affected about 30% of his cerebellum.  Chuck is doing very well considering the severity of the stroke.  He can use his right arm and hand, although slowly, and is walking short distances, which are good signs.  He will be in rehabilitation for another week.  If he continues to improve he will be allowed to go home which is his great desire.  Please continue to pray that God will heal the damage from the stroke and restore Mr. Bailey's strength in his right arm and leg.

From Gary McConnaughey, Pastor of Cadillac, Grand Rapids, & Kalamazoo Michigan:

Your prayers are request for Mr. Charles Bailey, an elder in Grand Rapids.  He was admitted to a hospital at 1:00 am Monday morning suffering from severe headaches and abdominal pain.  The doctors have determined he had a stroke that has affected his right arm.

They are still determining how severe the stroke was.  He couldn't lie on his back without vomiting which made getting x-rays almost impossible.  He is doing better today, but the doctors still don't know what caused his abdominal pain.  Chuck was scheduled to have a heart catheterization to check for blockages in his arteries on Monday which has been temporarily postponed.  Mr. Bailey is 74 years old and a double amputee.  He has just started taking insulin injections for diabetes a week ago.

Charles Bailey has recovered almost a 100% from his back surgery in January.  The doctors told him it would take about a year for him to get back to where he was before the surgery.  Chuck and his wife Sharon want to thank once again all those who have been praying for him and those who have sent cards and letters.  It has truly helped both of them through a very difficult time.

From Gary McConnaughey, Pastor of Cadillac, Grand Rapids, & Kalamazoo Michigan:

Here's an update from Mr. Charles Bailey who had back surgery.

After a 12-month period of learning and reorganizing my life and the life of my very loving and caring wife and helpmate we are on the road to painless and knowledgeable recovery.  The pain has diminished and my ability to stand and walk are rapidly returning so my wife and I, under her prodding, go to the mall and cruise around so the cabin fever medication is down to a minimum.

All of these days and nights have passed under the guidance and protection of our loving caring God and each and every one of your prayers and the wonderful cards from all around the world, the congregations and fellow members who are very encouraging and supportive.  Thank you all and may God bless you all.

Chuck had surgery this morning Jan 02.  The surgeon said everything went as planned, which was much smoother and shorter than his last surgery.  They will keep him in the hospital over the weekend and hopefully release him Monday.  Chuck and his wife Sharon would thank all those who have been praying for him.  Please continue to pray that God would grant a complete recovery without complications.  Cards and letter can be send to their home.

From Gary McConnaughey, Pastor of Cadillac, Grand Rapids, & Kalamazoo Michigan:

Your prayers are requested for Charles Bailey an elder serving in the 3 west Michigan churches.  He is scheduled to have back surgery this Friday January 2nd at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.  The surgery is to remove bone spurs on his spine that are pinching his nerves causing him a great deal of pain.  He had this same surgery last year for the same reason on the same disk on his spine.

Your prayers are requested for a successful surgery, a quick recovery, and that the bone spur doesn't grow back.  Chuck is 72 years old and a double amputee. He has seen his share of hospitals and surgery's and would very  much like a short visit this time.

From Ken Graham, II, pastor Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids/Cadillac, Michigan:

After his recent back surgery, Charles Bailey our elder here, has been in a lot of pain.  The surgery on his back went well and has healed well, but the nerve to the right leg has become inflamed and extremely sore.  He gets around on crutches very slowly and is on a great deal of pain medication.  The doctor is not yet sure why this nerve is so inflamed.  God alone knows at the moment.  His wife Sharon is trying to care for him and work full time as well.  Please pray that this nerve will heal, he can get off the pain medication soon and become mobile again.  Chuck wanted to express his thanks to everyone for their prayers for him.

From Ken Graham, II, pastor Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids/Cadillac, Michigan:

Charles Bailey's surgery was a complete success.  The doctor cleaned the calcification (from arthritis) off from 4 discs, two of which had grown completely closed. The Doctor didn't know how he had been walking around with such pain.  He was able to clean them all out after one hour additional surgery time.  God certainly gave the surgeon help and strength.  He complained to Charles' wife, Sharon, that his hands were so sore from all the chipping away he had to do during the surgery.

They closed one small leak in spinal fluid but did not catch the other leak.  So he will need to remain horizontal for the next 48 hours while the body closes up the other leak.  Then they will start getting him up for short walks after the 48 hours.  He was not in pain other than the headache that comes with loss of spinal fluid, and a little soreness in the legs from lack of circulation.  I asked him what he'd like to say to everyone, and he said, "Thank you."  (In reference to your prayers for him.)  Indeed thank you all very much.  Our Great God has intervened once again!

From Ken Graham, II, pastor Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids/Cadillac, Michigan:

Mr. Charles Bailey our elder here in West Michigan will be having back surgery on Wednesday January 8th.  The arthritis in his lower back is in danger of pinching off the nerves in that area.  Without surgery he will end up in a wheelchair soon with possible loss of control of some organs below the stomach.  The back surgery has an 80 percent success rate.  The 20 percent usually means some paralysis, wheelchair and loss of control of some organs below the stomach as well.

The Brethren and I desperately need his active participation in this area.  Please pray for God to heal him and to guide the surgeon in this process.  The Baileys (wife Sharon) would like to thank you in advance for your prayers.
