From Paul Kieffer, regional pastor, German speaking areas:

Mrs. Elisabeth Drosdek, from our Darmstadt congregation, was recently diagnosed with cancer cells in the liver, where apparently her bone cancer has spread. Mrs. Drosdek had been treated for breast cancer several years ago. In addition, her daughter, Eva Roe, who along with her husband lives with her mom and dad and helps out, was diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery on Wednesday. The Drosdek family is having a real trial with health concerns, and would greatly appreciate your prayers.

From Paul Kieffer, regional pastor, German speaking areas:

Elisabeth and Alois Drosdek, members of the Darmstadt, Germany, congregation, would like to thank all the brethren for their prayers and the many cards they received. After waking from her coma, which was quite a miracle and totally unexpected by the doctors, Mrs. Drosdek initially had some memory loss, but fully recovered mentally in late October. This was a wonderful blessing that she and the family are very thankful for. However, she still has difficulty with muscle coordination. After several weeks at a rehab clinic, she is still not able to walk without a walker due to the risk of injury from suddenly collapsing. During one fall she broke her left hand.

She and the family would appreciate your prayers for her full recovery.

From Paul Kieffer, regional pastor for German speaking areas:

Elisabeth Drosdek's remarkable recovery from her heart failure continues.

She is talking normally again, and after some initial memory lapses her short-term memory appears to have recovered a great deal. She is now at a rehabilitation center where she receives special treatment to strengthen her weakened muscles after having spent three weeks in bed. This week she was able to take 50 steps on her own, with her husband, Alois, at her side to catch her if she should stumble. In another ten days or so she should be able to go home. Elisabeth and her family appreciate the prayers and the encouraging messages of support they have received from all over the world.

From Paul Kieffer, regional pastor for German speaking areas:

There has been a dramatic improvement in Elisabeth Drosdek's condition. Doctors said that if she didn't improve after the first couple days of consciousness that not much more could be expected. That was over a week ago. The neurologist said the EEG test confirmed the doctors' opinion that her brain had been quite damaged by the several minutes between her heart's stopping and being revived, and that it made no sense at that point to prescribe any kind of therapy. After her pneumonia was stabilized and she was removed from intensive care October 23, orders were to prepare her for a nursing home by putting a feeding tube in her stomach, etc. If any more complications arise, the doctors would do basic procedures, but would not go overboard trying to revive her or keep her alive.

Monday and Tuesday she seemed to be getting stronger as the pneumonia weakened. Tuesday evening she was getting livelier. She was all turned around in her bed which meant pulled-out hoses and tubes. After hospital staff got her all hooked up again, she seemed really responsive and always focused her eyes when looking at her family members. She even tried to talk (no sound, but she did try to form her lips to say a word).

Wednesday, October 25, her daughter and son-in-law found her very alert and cognizant! When told that they tried to buy flowers that smelled, but that basically only the carnations had a smell, and they held the mixed bouquet toward her, she leaned forward, put her nose on a carnation and sniffed strongly! She reacted to their comments just like normal! Every expression she made was the expression they would have expected her to make as a response to the respective comments. She has a hole cut in her throat with a breathing tube/vacuum hooked to it, so at this time she can not use her vocal cords.

Her family, and all of us, are quite thrilled with this miraculous intervention!

Your prayers are still requested for the healing still needed.

From Paul Kieffer, regional pastor for German speaking areas:

Mrs. Elisabeth Drosdek suffered cardiac arrest early Monday morning. She had been caring for her 90+ year old mother for some time, and her mom died after Trumpets. Mrs. Drosdek had considerable stress with the entire situation and was quite worn down, and her doctor misdiagnosed her tiredness as stress related. In reality she had pneumonia. The pressure from her fluid-filled lungs caused her heart to stop as her husband was bringing her to the hospital around midnight. She was revived and was on life support until Wednesday. Most of the fluid has been drained from her lungs, but she is unable to speak and there is concern that she may have suffered brain damage.

Her husband Alois is also a member.  Please keep them both in your prayers.

From Paul Kieffer in Bonn, Germany:

During a recent routine examination, Elisabeth Drosdek, a member of our Darmstadt congregation, was found to have a lump in her breast. The growth was determined to be malignant, and Mrs. Drosdek had surgery last Thursday. She is recovering in the hospital and will undergo further treatment (most likely radiation). Her husband Alois, also a member, had a heart attack during last year's Feast of Tabernacles in Schluchsee and is somewhat restricted in his ability to work around the house. With his wife in the hospital, he is making lunch for his 91 year old mother-in-law, Elisabeth's mother.

They would appreciate the prayers of the brethren on their behalf. Their children Andreas and Eva are Ambassador College graduates.
