From Larry Walker, pastor, Bend/Medford, OR:

Bend member Lola Bailey died peacefully Thursday, July 25 from lung cancer which had spread to her liver. She was able to spend time with her family prior to her death. She never did experience severe pain. Her daughter, Georgia Marshall (with whom Lola had been staying during the final stages of her condition) observed that she had a peaceful expression on her face at the end.

The family would like to thank everyone for the prayers and many cards and other expressions of concern, which really meant a lot to Lola.

Please pray for her son Bill Menkenmaier, who is legally blind and now the only United member in the town of Burns, which is 120 miles from Bend. He has no way to attend services or the Feast. I'm sure he would appreciate prayers and cards, also.

From Larry Walker, pastor, Bend/Medford, OR:

Lola Bailey, who has been suffering from lung and liver cancer, has developed fluid in her remaining lung (the other lung was removed surgically some months ago) and is now on a respirator. She has no appetite, so she has not been eating well and has been losing weight. She just began taking an experimental drug for the lung cancer and said she seems to be feeling some better since taking it. Your continued prayers will be much appreciated.

From Larry Walker, pastor, Bend/Medford, OR:

Lola Bailey is beginning to experience some pain from her lung cancer. Her doctor did not put her on chemotherapy because he felt she was too weak. Instead he put her on a new experimental drug that has no side effects. However, he told her that it would not do anything for the cancer in her liver.

Lola remains in good spirits and has gained a little weight, which she needed to do. She is unable to attend services due to distance, so she has really enjoyed receiving cards. She hinted to me that she would like to continue receiving them, so I told her I would send in this update.

From Larry Walker, pastor, Bend/Medford, OR:

Lola Bailey of the Bend church, who had a lung removed a few months ago because of lung cancer found out recently that the cancer has returned--to her liver and bones. The doctor considers the cancer incurable. Lola is determined not to worry about this or let it get her down. She knows that God can choose to work a miracle. She is unable to attend services due to age, health problems and distance from services (150 miles). The only other member in the town where she lives is her 47 year old son, who is legally blind and has organic brain damage from a childhood accident that nearly killed him. Her husband died unexpectedly a few years ago from a heart attack.

From Larry Walker, pastor, Bend/Medford, OR:

Bend member Lola Bailey had cancer surgery last week. Her right lung had a grapefruit-sized malignant tumor, so the surgeon removed the entire lung. He determined that the cancer had not spread, so no further treatment has been suggested. She is hoping to be released today and will be staying with her daughter and son-in-law. Thank you for all the prayers and cards.

Lola Bailey, a widow in the Bend church area found out today that she has cancer in her right lung. It is covering the openings of two of the three tubes that supply air to her lung. The doctor thinks it is operable. Surgery plans are still pending. Lola would appreciate prayers for healing. She lives 130 miles from services and has been unable to attend due to health problems. She has an adult son in the same town who is legally blind.
