From David Johnson, pastor, Cape Girardeau/Poplar Bluff, MO; Paducah, KY:

We are saddened to announce the death of Mrs. Polly Burrow. Polly died quietly at home on Wednesday morning, January 16th, at 4:30 AM, just two weeks short of her 38th wedding anniversary. She had struggled with ovarian cancer for nearly six years.

Polly served in several capacities in the local congregation until her health made it impossible for her to attend. She was the local pianist, and also took many photos and created a photographic history of the Cape Girardeau congregation since its founding in 1995. She was very much loved in the local congregation and will be deeply missed by all.

In the years since her first prayer request was made, she and her husband, Clark, received many hundreds of cards, notes, letters and children's drawings from all over the world. They deeply appreciated the overwhelming outpouring of love and concern shown for them during this trial. Polly will be buried in Pocahontas, Arkansas on Sunday afternoon.

From David Johnson, pastor, Cape Girardeau/Poplar Bluff, MO; Paducah, KY:

Polly Burrow, a member in the Cape Girardeau congregation, continues her five-year struggle with ovarian cancer. In spite of all the efforts to destroy the tumor, the cancer continues to grow. Polly has now reached the point where the side effects of the chemotherapy are worse than any temporary benefit she might receive. Therefore Polly has elected to stop the chemotherapy and any other treatments. This means she has had an increase in pain and consequently has had to increase her pain medications. This leaves her dull and sleepy much of the time, and she feels she will soon need to give up driving. She has begun to receive help from the local hospice organization and feels they will be a great benefit in helping her manage the pain. At this point she is still able to attend services most Sabbaths, and plays the piano for the song service.

Polly would appreciate everyone's continued prayers for her and her husband, Clark, and their adult children as she goes through this difficult time. She always asks us to tell everyone how much all of the cards and letters have meant to her and how much strength she derives from knowing that so many of God's people are praying for her in her trial.

From David Johnson, pastor, Cape Girardeau/Poplar Bluff, MO; Paducah, KY:

Polly Burrow, of the Cape Girardeau congregation, is now taking another round of chemotherapy for her ovarian cancer and is getting a little relief from the pain she had been enduring. If all stays stable for the next couple of months, she may be able to resume the original chemotherapy, which was stopped when the drug lost its effectiveness. However, the original therapy causes severe and sustained nausea, so the thought of returning to it, no matter how effective, is difficult. Polly asked us to pass along the following message:

Dearest Brethren,

Since I began the new chemo, I am some better. The pressure has subsided, and I have cut the pain medication to a third of what I was using. That's nice, because I can stay awake better. We all know our trials and troubles are for the process of growing in God's character, and though painful to endure, they do just that. I receive cards and notes from you almost every day and I can't even begin to tell you the joy, the encouragement, and the strength to endure that they bring to me. And the drawings from your little ones are one giant boost.

Thanks ever so much!
Polly & Clark Burrow

From David Johnson - Poplar Bluff & Cape Girardeau, MO, & Paducah, KY congregations:

Polly and Clark Burrow have asked us to convey their deep appreciation for all of the prayers, cards, and notes from so many concerned brethren. They have been a tremendous source of strength and encouragement since the discovery of Polly's ovarian cancer five years ago.

Polly just received an update following her latest round of chemotherapy, and the recent treatments have been ineffectual. The primary tumor has grown and is causing increased pain and a partial obstruction of the bowel, and three small tumors have also appeared in the liver. She will be starting a more aggressive form of chemotherapy this next week.

Clark's lymphatic cancer, discovered four years ago, remains in remission. Though Clark is not a church member, he remains deeply appreciative for the prayers and concern of the brethren for both himself and his wife.

Clark and Polly request your continuing prayers as she enters this more difficult phase of treatment, and especially ask that the pain can be mitigated without additional medication. Their mailing address is:

From Roger West:

The following is a message from Polly and Clark Burrow regarding both of their battles with cancer.

Dear Brethren,

Thank you again for all of your cards, kind words, and prayers. They are a continual blessing and encouragement to us. Clark is doing well--for which I am very grateful. He is my constant help and companion. After six months of chemotherapy for the third time, one tumor refuses to die. I will have to have surgery in a few weeks, plus another round of chemotherapy is probable after recovery from surgery.

I pray always "Thy Kingdom Come"--for Clark and me, for all of you, and for the world.

Warmest regards,
Polly and Clark Burrow

From Roger West:

Polly Burrow, a longtime member from the Cape Girardeau, Mo., church is undergoing another round of chemotherapy treatments. She has a cancerous tumor the size of a tangerine. The Doctors want to do two chemo treatments and then surgery, followed by four more chemo treatments. This is the third time Polly is undergoing the rounds of treatment. The cancer keeps coming back.

Please pray for God's intervention for her. We know your prayers help.
