Hello once again,

We had some very productive work parties at the building yesterday and today...and this morning we picked up the donated upholstered chairs from the hospital in
Tyler. Following is a report of what I learned today about our members in the aftermath of Katrina--as well as an area we may be able to help with. (The help
request is at the bottom of this message.)

I was able to speak with our elder, Mr. Maurice Ledet, in Houma (just south and west of New Orleans) this morning. Dr. Avent from Baton Rouge was able to get
through to him just before I called, so they are now able to contact each other. He told me again that everyone in the Houma area was safe and accounted for--with
minimal damage to their property. They have electricity, water and sewer up and working in Houma, so they're doing pretty well in Houma.

Mr. Burnett is planning to head back to the area from Little Rock tomorrow to check on their house in Slidell and to be able to get back into the area to help
members. They will be staying with a member in Baton Rouge until the power, water and sewer is back on in Slidell.

Today I heard about a deacon and deaconess that live near the New Orleans airport. The had evacuated but came back to check on their house today. They found
that in the storm the windows had all blown out of the house, so there was quite a mess inside--but it's still standing and apparently was not flooded, though he was
having to put some tarps over parts of the roof. The power is back on there, but I'm not sure if they will try to stay in the house tonight in its state of disrepair.

One of the member families from Covington (Tom and Sandy Letellier--deacon and deaconess) got some terrible news today. His brother (not a member) was
driving from the Covington area to Baton Rouge and was killed in an auto accident. His sister-in-law is not expected to make it, either. So they have this trauma on
top of the stress of the storm.

Obviously people still need our prayers.

I did hear of one potential need for our members there--generators. Until Andy Burnett and others get back in the area, it's not certain, but it appears some will be in
need of generators for a while. Gas is becoming more available in the general area--but it may be a while before the electricity is back on. With the heat it would be
helpful to have electricity for parts of the day by running a generator part of the time. Rather than spend money on generators, it was thought that some members
might be willing to loan generators to the members in the Covington, Slidell, New Orleans, and Mississippi areas. I'll know more for certain in a few days, and
whether they would also want to borrow gas cans or have need of other items. But if you have a generator you could loan for a month or two, please email me
back with the size of the generator as soon as you can.

Thanks,
--KT
