Welcome
to the Camp Carter Web page for United Youth Camps. [Please
note, this is
NOT the Website
for the YMCA and their program, which runs all summer.] The United Youth Camps
program is are supported by the
United Church of God, an International Association and rent camps across
the U.S. for our summer and winter camp programs--usually about a week long. The camp we
use for our United Youth Camps summer camp in Texas is a YMCA facility located on
the northwest side of Fort Worth, TX, near Lake Worth, named Camp Amon
Carter. This is our UYC-Camp Carter entry page, which will give current year information
about the camp as well as links to past camp Web pages, and will be used
to post any special announcements we feel parents should be aware of during
camp. We'll also include some other items, like a link to check the current
weather, current year application forms for campers and staff, and the
current year camp description used in the annual camp magazine. We hope
the page will be a helpful communication tool before, during, and after
camp for campers, staff members, and parents.
The United Church of God member Web site has a page giving all
the United Youth Camps information for this year, as well as having a copy of
the 2008 Camp Magazine for download or viewing. The 2008 Youth Camp button is on
the menu on the left side of the member Web site. Here's the direct link in case
you're having trouble finding the page: http://members.ucg.org/youthcamps/.
Please note the application deadline is the same as
in the past--May 1st. However, this year we're using a new online application
process. There is a link on the Youth Camps page of the member Web site for the
online application system.
2008 Dates:
Due to changes in the
Texas school regulations about start times, the dates for Camp Carter in
2008 have changed yet again for 2008. This year we have been moved to early
July. They asked about a date later in August, but that conflicts with school band
& other camps here in Texas, so the dates they gave us are July 6-13, with
staff coming in for training starting Saturday night, July 5, 2008.
Please note the dates
given in the United News in late November ARE INCORRECT. The dates shown here
are the correct ones. (The dates in the 2008 Camp Magazine are also correct.)
Application Deadline is May
1st!
Camp Carter Staff Update-April 10
After the new online application process became live, we
found that they system did not include the "Kitchen" option for a
staff service area--nor does it include the "Other" option we've had
in the past to allow you to write in other options such as working in the
Kitchen. If you want to help in that area you'll need to put that information in
one of the notes fields in the online staff application. We're sorry for the
inconvenience, but the turn-around time to add another field in the online
system prohibits us from making the change at this time. You can always email me
to add that to your application if you have already applied.
Camp 2008 Update
The links below will become active after the annual camp magazine has been mailed to all member households.
Please note that although the camp magazine has been mailed, we are not going
to be posting application packets online this year to be downloaded. We are
trying to move to an "online application process". The link for you to
apply for camp will be on the new UCG Member Website. Look for 2008 Youth Camp
link on the menu system along the left side of your screen. Or, here's the
direct link to the camp page: http://members.ucg.org/youthcamps/
. Click on the "2008 Online Camp Application" link to get into the
system. Our vendor held us up for a while, but it is now working, so please use
that link to apply for camp.
The packing list and transportation form are not available now but will be
active once acceptance packets begin going out. They will also be sent out via
email by the new online application system, but a copy will be available here in
case you need another.
Maps are available below
to help you get to Camp Carter as well as for service in Ft. Worth. You'll need
the free Adobe Acrobat Reader program (see link below) to view and print them.

We have new dates this summer for
Camp
Carter! With the change in
Texas
state law about when public schools can begin, the YMCA is trying to
maximize attendance at their own camps and have moved our week of camp to
the week right after the Fourth of July in order to keep our price
increase to a minimum. Campers will arrive on Sunday, July 6, and leave on
Sunday, July 13. We’re expecting lots of action, a good balance of
“down time”, and numerous opportunities to visit with other campers
and staff from all over the nation.
Activities are varied, ranging from many indoor activities (Christian
living, crafts, dance, and strength training) to the more active outdoor
activities (basketball, flag football, horseback riding, softball,
skeet/archery, and volleyball). In addition, everyone enjoys the ropes
course (high and low elements) and a ½ day lakefront activity on nearby
Lake Worth
. Water-skiing, tubing, swimming or just lounging on the shore with a
brother or sister dorm is a popular activity. We will also continue
kayaking, which was a hit last year. The oldest boys dorm and oldest girls
dorm get a few extras each year such as a golf class on a nearby course
and rappelling the 65’ tower.
Camp Carter offers plenty of opportunities to visit
with fellow campers at meals, joint swimming sessions and dance classes,
the lakefront activity, evening activities and snack time as well as on
the Sabbath and the two dances—one early in the week and the other the
final night—all in the safe, accepting atmosphere of United Youth Camps.
Christian living classes, daily compass checks, and
nightly Bible Q & A sessions help give a solid base of biblical
instruction as well as discussion of this year’s theme of “Rising
Above the World”. Campers tell us they find these the most helpful parts
of camp for them, and the ministers involved are happy to help them grow
spiritually.
All of this takes place in
Fort Worth
,
Texas
, on a beautiful 300+ acre country property amid the rolling
Texas
hills. There are many large oaks and sycamore trees to provide lots of
shade, which is nice to have even though we schedule most of the active
outdoor activities in the morning and the indoor and water activities in
the afternoon.
Transportation If you plan to fly to camp, transportation to and from DFW and Dallas
Love Field will be provided free of charge. Please schedule your
flight’s arrival between noon and 3 PM on July 6th and your
departure between 11 AM and 2 PM on July 13th. That will allow
us time to schedule our airport runs so you arrive near the beginning of
check-in—which starts at
3 PM
.
If you're traveling by private vehicle, please plan
to arrive between 3 and 5 PM on July 6th and plan to depart at
or shortly after 10 AM on July 13th. Please note that we will not
be able to accept campersbefore
3 PM on July 6th, since we need the time on both Saturday night
and Sunday to finish our staff training before campers arrive. We want to
provide the best quality staff team to care for our campers, so please
give us that time to “get up to speed” before arriving.
Staff The YMCA staff will run the ropes course, rappelling, archery, skeet/riflery,
swimming pool, horseback riding, as well as provide the meals. We will
need counselors and assistant counselors, plus staff for all other
activities, including lifeguards for the lakefront activity and nursing
staff for the
Health
Center
.
Precamp staff training is an important factor in
making sure we serve the campers well at our United Youth Camps, so
we’re asking that all staff members arrive in time for services in
Fort Worth
on the Sabbath of July 5th. The brethren have been wonderful in
providing a meal for us each year, after which we’ll move into the
facility and have training sessions both Saturday night and Sunday before
campers arrive.
